Freezies are definitely a staple in our house in the summer.
Nothing beats a nice frozen treat on the front porch; its one of my favourite memories as a kid.
I love seeing my three kiddos sitting quietly together (which is super special because its so rare, haha) and enjoying a peaceful few minutes to cool down. My younger two still struggle a bit with the whole freezie eating technique and get quite frustrated when the ice keeps sliding back into the tube or falling out on the ground (as you can see with my two youngest here). Their hot little hands create a melted puddle at the bottom, and it inevitably gets everywhere.
This freezie holder pattern is unique in that it tapers at the bottom to a small hole that the wrapper can be pulled through, keeping the freezie in place as you push it up.
Any kind of scrap yarn would work well, so its a great stash buster! Cotton is more absorbent than acrylic (for all those messy eaters), but any material is just fine.
This is just a very basic pattern, and can be customized in any way you like!
Freezie Cover Pattern
*worked in continuous rounds*
You will need: 5.5mm hook Any worsted weight yarn
Pattern #1 Basic (pictured in yellow)
To start: chain 6, slip stitch to join in first chain to form ring, CH1
Round 1: SC8 in ring (do not join) (8sc)
Round 2: SC in each st around (8sc)
Round 3: 2SC in each st around (16sc)
Round 4-14: SC in each stitch around (16sc)
Fasten off and weave in ends
Pattern #2 Ribbed (pictured in blue)To start: chain 6, slip stitch to join in first chain to form ring, CH1
Round 1: SC8 in ring (do not join) (8sc)
Round 2: SC in each st around (8sc)
Round 3: 2SC in each st around (16sc)
Round 4: *BPSC in first SC, FPSC in next SC*. Repeat *…* around (8bpsc, 8fpsc)
Round 5-16: *BPSC in next BPSC, FPSC in next FPSC*. Repeat *…* around (8bpsc, 8fpsc)
Fasten off and weave in ends
Pattern #3 Textured (pictured in pink/coral)To start: chain 6, slip stitch to join in first chain to form ring, CH1
Round 1: SC8 in ring (do not join) (8sc)
Round 2: SC in each st around (8sc)
Round 3: SC in first st, 2SC in each remaining st around (15sc)
Round 4: *SC in first SC, DC in next SC* Repeat *…* around (8sc, 7dc)
Round 5: *DC in first SC, SC in next st* Repeat around (8dc, 7sc)
Repeat rounds 4-5 five more times
Fasten off and weave in ends
