While I’m not traditionally a “Valentine-y” person, I do love finding little ways to show friends and family that I care about them and quite often that comes in the form of a handmade item that I’ve put a lot of time and thought into.  I’ve made many different things over the years but this is the first time I’ve made a specifically Valentine’s Day related crochet project. And what better way to keep warm and cozy in the chill February weather than with a Smitten?

What is a Smitten, you ask?

It is a mitten built for two, ideal for holding hands with your special Valentine! It has a double cuff and a nice thick cozy hand portion. It is worked from the top down, with some fairly basic stitches and a little heart. This is a great project for beginners to learn some new stitches and to practice simple colour work. You can also take it a step further and play around with the colours like I did in this rainbow version!

Since it works up so quickly, and can be made with any worsted weight yarn, it is versatile enough to be made up as a last minute gift for your special someone, a wedding favour, or any occasion that calls for a little yarn and a whole lot of love!

Pattern is available for free in my Ravelry store. Don’t forget to share your finished Smittens on Ravelry, my FB page or tag me on IG!

Until next time, Happy Crafting!
