HAPPY NEW YEAR!!
Its been a busy holiday season and I haven’t been able to keep up with the blog like I had hoped to. I had a ton of crochet orders this year, more than I have had in years previous, and it was largely due to this pattern that I am sharing today. No sooner had I posted a couple of quick photos on my FB page, the one I had finished was sold and I had orders for a few more!
The bright colours in the Caron Chunky Cupcakes and the big fluffy petals of the hat pattern are the perfect combination for a unique fashion accessory that is sure to chase away the winter blahs and turn some heads along the way! I am really loving the Chunky Cupcakes even more than the original; the pom poms are way nicer and more on trend with all the other fur pom poms you see everywhere, the colours are nicer (the originals always seem to be more ‘baby’ to me) and of course they work up much faster. I can finish off a chunky hat in an hour or less, which is great when you are stocking up for a craft fair, donating to charity, or you are trying to quickly whip up a last minute gift for any occasion.
**update** I have teamed up with Yarncanada.ca to offer you a free downloadable version! Scroll down to the end of the pattern to get your copy!
The Pretty Petals Hat
You will need:
5.5mm hook
1 ball Caron Chunky Cupcakes *or approx 3.5 oz, or 125m of #5 weight (Bulky) yarn
Special Stitches:
To start: chain 4, slip stitch in first chain to form ring.
Round 1: Chain 3 (counts as first DC, CH1). (DC, CH1) 10 times in ring. Slip stitch in 2nd chain. (11 DC, 11 ch1 spaces)
Round 2: Slip stitch into next chain space. BEGCL, CH2 in chain space *(CL, CH2) in next chain space* Repeat *…* 10 more times (11 cl, 11 ch2 spaces)
Round 3: Slip stitch into next chain space. BEGCL, CH2, CL all in same space. (CL, CH2, CL) in each chain space around. (22cl, 11 ch2 spaces)
Round 4-8: Repeat Round 3
Round 9: Slip stitch into next chain space. BEGCL, BEGCL into the top of the first cluster (see photo), cluster into the same space. *CL, BEGCL in top of cluster, CL in next chain space* Repeat *…* around and join with a slip stitch in top of first BEGCL.
Fasten off and weave in ends. Attach pom pom to top of hat.
I like to make mine detachable for easy care and washing by sewing it to a button. This also makes your poms interchangeable between hats if you keep your sizing consistent.

Have you tried any of my patterns so far? I would love to see your project photos in Ravelry, on my FaceBook Page, or anywhere you share your work.
As always, please feel free to share the link to my pattern, but do not reproduce, copy or or sell my pattern. Anything you make is of course yours to sell (no mass productions), gift etc. and a referral back to my design is always appreciated.
Happy Crafting!!

Hi. I downloaded your pattern for the pretty petals ha t, but can’t find instructions on how to make the cluster stitch.
Kathleen
I have the stitch description in my other post for The Sapna Hat, but I will edit this post to add it here too. THanks for letting me know! I must have missed it when I switched over to the new site. Here are the instructions for the cluster stitches:
BEGCL (beginning cluster) – chain 2, yarn over, insert hook into stitch and pull through, yarn over and pull through first two loops, leaving two on the hook. Repeat 2 more times (4 loops on hook), yarn over and pull through all loops. Close with a chain stitch
CL (cluster)– yarn over, insert hook into stitch and pull through, yarn over and pull through first two loops, leaving two on hook. Repeat three more times (5 loops on hook) yarn over and pull through all loops. Close with a chain stitch.
