Summer is almost here! As the final weeks of the school year approach, I find myself preparing for the summertime craziness with three very energetic kiddos at home.

While I love planning out special trips and fun activities for their summer break, there’s something to be said about those lazy days around the house when the kids play and mom gets a few precious moments to sit and relax, preferably with some yarn and a cold drink!

Water balloons are a definite favourite around here, but traditional water balloons are a pain to fill, leave a mess of tiny pieces to pick up later, which are not safe for the really young ones, and of course it all ends up in the trash, which is no good for the environment.

Crochet water balloons made with Bernat Blanket yarn hold a ton of water, are cuddly soft, and can be used over and over again for many years. My kids have used the same set for nearly 5 years and they still love them. All you need is a bucket of water and they’ll be entertained for hours!

They work up super quick and are super hot sellers for markets. They make great last minute gifts too!

My crochet water balloon pattern makes the perfect balloon shape, and it’s just the right size for little hands. Make them in different colours for each kid, in contrasting colours for team play, or every colour of the rainbow!
